19mayAll Day22Columbia Diggins Tent Town 1852

Event Details

Step back to 1852 when Columbia was a bustling mining camp and miners labored to find the rich ore. You’ll discover what life was like in those tough times and learn practical skills that were a way of life for the brave men and women, who came to California to seek their fortunes. Diggins 1852 is also an authentic representation of buildings and businesses that once were located where the restored state park now stands. Over 150 volunteers participate annually in the recreation of this tent town. Get firsthand experience at day-to-day chores, like laundry washing, and baking bread in outdoor ovens. See for yourself how miners worked their claims for gold and witness their struggles with the local water company. There’s a hotel, restaurant, gunsmith, saloons, and other establishments to give you a realistic glimpse of a typical gold rush town. So bring your family and friends with you on this adventure back in a time when no one has heard of computers, cell phones, or automobiles.
